Jaipur, April 21, 2025 — In a major crackdown on police corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, arrested a head constable red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000. The accused, Ranjeet Singh, posted at Rawanjana Dungar Police Station, was caught on Monday for demanding and receiving the bribe in exchange for settling a registered case.

Bribe Demanded to Drop SC/ST Charges

According to Dr. Ravi Prakash Meharda, Director General of ACB, the bureau acted upon a complaint filed by a local resident. The complainant reported that approximately 15 days ago, he was involved in an altercation with another individual from his village, which led to a police case being registered against him at Rawanjana Dungar Police Station.

A few days later, Head Constable Ranjeet Singh approached the complainant and allegedly demanded ₹10,000 to avoid booking the case under the SC/ST Act and to ensure the matter was settled discreetly.

Trap Operation Led to On-the-Spot Arrest

Under the supervision of ACB Additional Superintendent of Police Surendra Kumar Sharma, the bureau verified the bribery claim on April 20. Following confirmation, a trap was set the next day. On April 21, Singh was apprehended near a roadside tea stall at Khanzana Dungar Railway Station while accepting the bribe.

The ACB has initiated a thorough interrogation of the accused officer and is investigating whether others were involved in the extortion attempt.

Ongoing Crackdown on Corruption in Law Enforcement

The arrest underscores Rajasthan ACB’s ongoing efforts to eradicate corruption from public service, particularly within law enforcement agencies. Authorities have urged citizens to report any instances of bribery or misconduct, assuring prompt action.

This case serves as a reminder that no one is above the law and that efforts to cleanse public institutions from corruption will be pursued with full force.
